Over exposure

I don't know what happened to this photo when I took it… but I like it!

Elephants

Last month we went on a trip to Zambia, to South Luangwa game park and then on to Victoria Falls. I would highly recommend both parks. South Luangwa was full of up close animals and Victoria Falls, well, it takes your breath away. On the trip as a whole, elephants became my new favorite animal. We saw them everywhere! How can such a huge animal be so gentle!

It was cool seeing them on safari

This one mock charged us and trumpeted at us. It felt like the ground shook!

But it was even cooler when we had to move to a different lunch table when some walked too near us.

And when we had to be escorted to our room because one was munching by the pool.

It was cool seeing them walk past our tents at a distance...

But even cooler when one lumbered out from the trees behind our tent while we were having a picnic and we had to run for a safe distance! What a beautiful animal!

Even after..

Even after eight years of marriage I love waking up next to this man in the quiet hours of early morning...

And then having our crazy four jump into bed with us :)

eight years

Once again we celebrate another wonderful year of marriage. Each year we choose a word to sum up the last year of marriage. This year, there was one word we came up with that could encompass both our year of marriage and our life. "Building". In the last year we've had our fourth child, been to six different countries, have learnt that both of our fathers are very sick with cancer, started homeschooling our oldest child, all whilst trying to learn a Banto language, put in roots and develop relationships with the people we live among.

So, little by little we are building. Building on our marriage. Investing in our children. Creating more important memories with our families so far away. Growing in our language skills. Forming new relationships. Oh, how we need the Lord's help!

Neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.  (I Corinthians 3:7) Lord, grow us and those we love to know you better and to walk in your ways.
